The Ghana Police Service has refuted claims that officers raided the residence of New Patriotic Party (NPP) Bono East Regional Chairman Ibrahim Baba Bukari, resulting in a death.
In an August 1, 2025, Facebook statement, police labeled the reports “false,” clarifying the operation targeted a robbery syndicate in Techiman based on credible intelligence.
During the 1:20 a.m. intervention, officers confronted suspects at a property later identified as Bukari’s. One robber, Seidu Bukari (no relation to the chairman), sustained fatal gunshot wounds and died at a hospital. Police described him as a member of a syndicate responsible for motorbike thefts and trafficking to Kumasi.
A stolen motorbike and robbery tools were recovered at the scene. Gang members who fled remain at large. The Inspector-General of Police has deployed teams from the CID Headquarters, Professional Standards Bureau, and Intelligence Directorate to investigate.
