Ghanaian authorities have launched a criminal investigation into a viral TikTok video containing death threats targeting President John Mahama and First Lady Lordina Mahama.

The Ghana Police Service confirmed the probe in an August 12 Facebook statement, revealing two suspects Prince Ofori and Yayra Abiwu are already in custody.

The disturbing video features a female voice issuing explicit threats in Twi, including: “We will kill [Mahama] and cut off the head of his wife,” referencing sacks used in the recent helicopter crash victims’ recovery.

The threat directly invokes the August 6 tragedy at Adansi Akrofuom, which claimed eight lives, including Defence Minister Dr. Edward Omane Boamah and Environment Minister Dr. Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed.

Police emphasized efforts to apprehend additional suspects linked to the video. The investigation underscores heightened tensions following the crash that killed senior officials, including ruling NDC party Vice Chairman Dr. Samuel Sarpong and National Security Coordinator Alhaji Limuna Muniru Mohammed.
