The Director General of Prisons, Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie (Esq), ended her maiden three-day working tour to the Ashanti Regional Prisons Command with the launch of the Ghana Prisons Service reset strategic initiative, themed “Think Prisons 360 degrees”.

The event, which happened on Saturday, 26th July, 2025, at the Kumasi Central Prison in the presence of the Ashanti regional minister, Hon. Dr. Frank Amoakohene, the special guest of honour, attracted officers drawn from the Kumasi Central, Kumasi Female, Manhyia Local Prison, and the Amanfrom Settlement Camp Prison.

In her speech, the visionary Director General of Prisons explained that, the think Prisons 360 degree initiative, is a paradigm shift, one that envisions the service not only as a place of incarceration but also a place of hope, healing, productivity, and national relevance, It is a comprehensive transformation anchored on 12 strategic points”, she emphasized.

The initiative, which will be a guiding compass for the noble service in the coming years, seeks to make the Ghana Prisons a household name, because the mission is not just about keeping people in, but also about bringing out the best in them, and in so doing, bringing out the best in Prison Officers.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie stressed that “The core pillars of the Think Prisons 360 Degrees include: Rebranding, Wealth Creation, Advocacy, Welfare, Agric Mechanisation, Modernisation, and Industrialisation.”

Facility Tour
On her first day, Wednesday 24th July, the Director General, as part of her “Think Prisons 360 degree” agenda, visited the Obuasi Local Prison, Ahinsan Settlement Camp Prison, and the Amanfrom Settlement Camp.

The visit to the prison facilities provided her with firsthand information about activities, including security, agriculture, ongoing projects, conditions of service of officers, and the welfare of prisoners.

She concluded her facility tour with separate visits to the Ejura Settlement Camp Prison, Manhyia Local Prison, Kumasi Female, and Kumasi Central Prison, where the Royal Morale Squad and Espirit de Corps jama groups at Manhyia and Kumasi Central treated her to back-to-back soothing jama and morale uplifting songs.

The second female Director General of Prisons was welcomed to all the prison facilities with standard para-military Quarter Guards made up of both female and male contingents.

Courtesy Calls
As part of her itinerary, the Director General of Prisons paid courtesy calls on the Asantehene, Otumfour Osei Tutu II, the Ashanti regional minister, Dr. Frank Amoakohene, Adansi Dompoasehene, Okofo Kwabena Bonsu, Ejurahene, Barima Osei Hwedie II, and the Adansi Ahinsanhemaa Nana Akua Tiwaa.

Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie also visited the AngloGold Ashanti Obuasi mine, the Obuasi East and Ejura Sekyeredumase Municipal Chief Executive Officers.

Health Walk
The tour ended with a massive Health Walk of officers, led by the Director General of Prisons, the Director of Prisons, in charge of Agric, the Greater Accra Prisons regional Commander, the Ashanti regional Prisons Commander, and all the Officers-in-Charge of the stations in the region.
