The Ghana Publishing Company has announced a crackdown on individuals and groups involved in the falsification and circulation of fake gazettes, describing the act as a threat to national credibility and the rule of law.
Speaking at a press briefing in Accra on Wednesday, August 27, the Chief Executive Officer of the Company, Nana Kwasi Boatey, warned that those behind the illegal practice will face the full rigours of the law.
According to him, the falsification of official gazettes undermines the integrity of state records and poses serious risks to Ghana’s democratic processes.
“The Ghana Publishing Company is waging war against people who consistently want to either pirate or falsify the Ghana gazette. We say no to the fake gazettes that circulate,” he said.
Mr Boatey said that anyone found tampering with gazettes, whether staff, associates, or individuals outside the institution, will be treated as an enemy of the state.
“As long as I remain the MD of the Ghana Publishing Company, any person, whether you are in Asafo in Kumasi, New Town in Accra, in Tudu, or within the premises of Ghana Publishing Company… if you intend or attempt to compromise the content of the Ghana gazette, you are waging war against the Ghana Publishing Company, you’re waging war against Ghana, you are doing a disservice to democracy and rule of law,” he said.
He further revealed that the company will work closely with security agencies and other institutions to clamp down on perpetrators.
“We will chase you, we will arrest you, we will prosecute you, and we will make sure you stay behind bars,” Mr Boatey warned, adding that the media has also been invited to support the campaign.
Describing the situation as “heartbreaking,” the CEO said that protecting the integrity of official gazettes is not just about safeguarding the Ghana Publishing Company but about protecting the country’s governance structures.
