Tourism Minister Abla Dzifa Gomashie has declared Ghana’s dedication to preserving its cultural landmarks during the 47th UNESCO World Heritage Committee session in Paris.

Speaking at the July 7-17 conference, Gomashie emphasized ongoing efforts to protect the Forts and Castles World Heritage Property through international collaboration.

“We are committed to ensuring these sites are properly conserved,” Gomashie stated, acknowledging UNESCO, ICCROM, ICOMOS, and IUCN for their technical support. The minister confirmed Ghana’s implementation of recommendations from a recent Reactive Monitoring mission to the historic sites. Gomashie further highlighted alignment with global heritage frameworks, noting: “We are currently implementing the 2030 indicators for culture within our national development agenda.”

A key initiative presented was the Black Star Experience – Ghana’s comprehensive strategy to position itself as a leader in Africa’s cultural and creative industries. The minister framed this as integral to synergizing tangible and intangible heritage, reinforcing Ghana’s adherence to international conservation standards amid active participation in global heritage governance.
