The Ghana Education Service (GES) confirmed the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) will proceed as scheduled nationwide, including conflict-prone areas.

GES Director Professor Ernest Kofi Davis announced enhanced security coordination with law enforcement to safeguard candidates in volatile regions such as Bawku, Savelugu, Nalerigu, and Nkwanta.

“We are working collaboratively with security agencies to ensure incident-free examinations,” he stated at an August 4 press conference.

All candidates in high-risk zones will reside on school premises under security protection for the exam duration, eliminating daily commutes. Professor Davis emphasized, “There wouldn’t be any day students.

Those needing escorts post-exams will be returned safely to their communities.” The WASSCE is set to run from August 5 to September 19, with preparations finalized.

Professor Davis issued a strict warning against examination malpractice, noting invigilators or supervisors caught facilitating cheating face immediate dismissal.

“The GES Council has empowered us to dismiss offenders,” he cautioned, stressing that malpractice undermines certificate integrity. Over 400,000 candidates will sit for the exams across 701 centers in Ghana.
