Top officials from Ghana’s Immigration Service and Prisons Service separately honored officers who dominated the African Armwrestling Championship in Abuja, Nigeria.

The champions, contributing 20 of Ghana’s 55 total medals, were celebrated for their record-breaking performances.

At the Prisons Service headquarters, Director-General Mrs. Patience Baffoe-Bonnie received medalists Daniel Acquah (4 gold), Mabel Yeboah (4 gold), and Henry Otoo (2 silver, 2 bronze). The officers presented their medals while sharing insights from the competition. Mrs. Baffoe-Bonnie highlighted armwrestling’s potential for inmate rehabilitation, pledging institutional support for the sport’s development within prisons. “Sports can transform lives,” she noted.

Meanwhile, Immigration Service Comptroller-General Samuel Basintale praised Edward Yamoah Asamoah (2 gold), Blessed Abeka Nunoo (1 gold, 1 silver, 2 bronze), Godwin Sackey (1 gold, 1 silver), and referee Nii Otoo Larkyne. Mr. Basintale committed to providing training facilities, equipment, and sponsorship, emphasizing how sports build physical resilience and teamwork among personnel.

Ghana Armwrestling Federation President Charles Osei Asibey welcomed the security agencies’ backing. “Having these institutions support us is tremendously motivating,” he stated. The medalists expressed gratitude for the recognition, vowing to expand the sport’s reach nationwide.
