Sports Minister Kofi Adams has committed to urgent rehabilitation of Kumasi’s Baba Yara Stadium and the stalled Nyinahin Sports Complex following a direct appeal from Ghana Premier League champions Bibiani Gold Stars.
Club CEO Kwasi Adu presented their 2024/25 trophy to Adams on July 12, emphasizing the facilities’ critical role in their upcoming CAF Champions League campaign.
Adams immediately inspected both sites after the meeting, confirming Baba Yara requires pitch re-grassing, floodlight repairs, and spectator area upgrades to meet CAF standards by the 2025/26 continental season.
The 2022-renovated stadium hosts both Gold Stars and Asante Kotoko’s international matches. At Nyinahin, Adams assessed the abandoned 5,000-seat multi-sport complex – dormant since contractor desertion in November 2024 – pledging to revive construction to serve Ashanti and Western North regions.
The minister later consulted Asantehene Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at Manhyia Palace, aligning renovation plans with traditional leadership. Gold Stars had specifically requested Kumasi as their continental home venue due to Bibiani’s proximity, arguing improved infrastructure would enhance fan access and competitive performance.
