Accra will convene the triennial Union Catholique Africaine de la Presse (UCAP) Congress from August 10–17, 2025, focusing on artificial intelligence’s intersection with human values.

The Ghana Institute of Management and Public Administration (GIMPA) will host 150 delegates from 30 countries, including journalists, tech leaders, and Vatican representatives.

According to organizers, the theme “Balancing Technological Progress and Preservation of Human Values” will drive plenary sessions and workshops examining AI’s societal impact. Key subthemes include corporate responsibility in AI deployment, digital well-being frameworks, and media’s role in promoting ecological stewardship. The congress aims to train 150 media practitioners in ethical AI applications while developing action plans for governments and civil society.

UCAP President Charles Ayetan emphasized Ghana’s selection as host reflects its blend of tradition and innovation. Delegates will engage with Ghanaian cultural landmarks like Cape Coast Castle and the Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum alongside formal sessions.

The Mahama administration’s digital transformation agenda aligns with the congress goals. Professor Ben Nnamdi Emenyeonu, a committee member, noted the event will establish monitoring mechanisms through UCAP’s national branches to track ethical AI adoption post-conference.
