Nana Addo Tamakloe concluded Ghana’s participation in the BRICS+ Fashion Summit in Moscow, where he promoted African fashion industry development alongside representatives from over 60 countries.
The three-day event focused on emerging market opportunities in global fashion commerce.
Tamakloe, who leads Accra Fashion Week, addressed sustainability and trade expansion themes during the August 28-30 summit. The gathering brought together fashion association leaders, manufacturers, designers and industry experts to discuss developing market strategies.
The Ghanaian executive emphasized Africa’s potential role in international fashion markets while highlighting upcoming Accra Fashion Week celebrations. The event marks its 10th anniversary in December with shows scheduled at Airport City from December 16-21.
Summit discussions centered on how BRICS+ nations and other developing regions can strengthen their fashion industries amid global economic challenges. Participants from South America, Africa, the Middle East and Asia explored collaborative opportunities and commercial partnerships.
“The BRICS+ Fashion Summit continues to show how emerging countries can use platforms like this to position their brands and industries at the center of global conversations,” Tamakloe said during his presentation. He stressed that fashion development creates broader economic opportunities beyond creative industries.
The summit coincided with Moscow Fashion Week, creating expanded networking opportunities for international participants. Russian designers shared platforms with brands from Brazil, South Africa, China, India and Spain, demonstrating multicultural fashion collaboration.
Tamakloe promoted FashionGHANA Shop, recently opened in Accra’s Adabraka district, as part of efforts to commercialize local fashion production. The retail outlet will sponsor Accra Fashion Week’s anniversary celebrations while supporting emerging Ghanaian designers.
Professional education and innovation featured prominently in summit programming, with sessions addressing skills development needs in emerging fashion markets. Participants discussed strategies for building sustainable fashion ecosystems in developing economies.
Ghana’s fashion industry has grown significantly in recent years, with Accra Fashion Week serving as a key platform for showcasing local talent and attracting international attention. The event has helped establish Ghana as a regional fashion center.
The Moscow summit reflects growing recognition of emerging markets’ contributions to global fashion diversity and commercial growth. Developing nations increasingly seek platforms to showcase creative industries and attract international investment.
Tamakloe’s participation represents broader efforts to integrate African fashion into global supply chains and commercial networks. Such engagement helps position Ghana’s creative economy for expanded export opportunities and international partnerships.
The summit’s emphasis on sustainability aligns with growing global demand for ethical fashion production, creating opportunities for African manufacturers to differentiate their offerings in competitive international markets.
