A Ghanaian man living in Germany has broken a record after cycling from his base country to Accra, Ghana, on his ‘Bike2MyRoots’ solo project.

The Ghanaian-born man from Teshie, identified as Emmanuel Akpor Adjei, has become the first African man to cycle solo through 15 countries, covering over 10,000 km just on a bicycle.
The young man started his journey from Munich, Germany, on June 7, 2025, and arrived 103 days later. He crossed from Germany to Austria, Switzerland, France, Spain, Morocco, Western Sahara, Mauritania, Senegal, Gambia, Guinea-Bissau, Guinea, Sierra Leone, Liberia, and Côte d’Ivoire.

He entered Ghana on Wednesday, September 17. His mission was not only to challenge physical limits but also to raise awareness and funds for education in underserved communities in Ghana through his partnership with the NGO EduSpots.
The project aimed to mobilise support and ignite community-led change to raise €100,000 to support sustainable education initiatives.

He was welcomed at the Independence Square of Accra on Friday, September 19, at 4:00 PM by family members, loved ones, and the general public. Many of his family and friends were heard welcoming him, saying “Oobake.”
A durbar ceremony was also held at the forecourt of the Teshie Community Library on his behalf on Saturday, September 20, 2025, to welcome him home formally after the long journey.
The “Bike2MyRoots” project has been widely celebrated for its blend of athletic passion and social purpose. Adu Bohaen Carlos, Chairperson of EduSpots’ Catalyst Committee, expressed admiration for Adjei’s endeavor. He said:

Guinness record delays Ghanaian walk-a-thon approval
