Ghana’s Ambassador to South Korea, Kojo Choi, has successfully completed the orientation program for newly appointed envoys, describing the experience as both rigorous and deeply inspiring.
From September 1st to 5th, Mr. Choi joined colleagues at the Conference of Heads of Mission and Orientation Program for Newly Appointed Envoys.
Ambassadors and high commissioners from across the world gathered in Accra for five days of intensive training and dialogue.
“For five full days, from morning till evening, hon. minister for foreign affairs Samuel Okudjeto Ablakwa, uncle Ishmael Yamson, sector ministers, and institutional leaders guided us through rigorous and inspiring sessions,” he recounted.
The program was formally opened by President John Mahama, who launched the KPI framework under the theme “Harnessing the Dividends of Diplomacy for Ghana’s Reset Agenda.
” According to Mr. Choi, the platform gave envoys practical tools to align their work abroad with Ghana’s national development goals.
A personal highlight for him was reconnecting with Hon. Kwesi Ahwoi, who he affectionately described as “the one who issued me my very first permit many years ago.” Mr. Ahwoi, now Ghana’s Ambassador to Serbia, was among the senior diplomats celebrated at the event.
The orientation concluded with a dinner and awards ceremony graced by the Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and other distinguished guests.
That evening, Ghana honored some of its diplomatic icons, including Ambassador James Victor Gbeho, Dr. Ibn Chambas, Ambassador Kwesi Quartey, and Ambassador Elizabeth Ohene.
Reflecting on the journey ahead, Mr. Choi emphasised humility and commitment as his guiding principles.
“Though the path ahead is unfamiliar, I walk it with humility and conviction. I am deeply honored that the president and nation have entrusted me with this responsibility, despite my different roots and background,” he said.
Quoting scripture, he added: “seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things shall be added unto you.”
As he prepares to fully assume duty in South Korea, Ambassador Choi pledged to work diligently and deliver results.
“Today, I commit myself to seeking first the benefit of Ghana and the vision of president Mahama. as I prepare to take up my post in Korea, I carry this commitment with me, to work diligently and return with results worthy of this great nation.”
