Ghana’s Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP) has formally charged Dr. Mustapha Hamid, former CEO of the National Petroleum Authority (NPA), with extortion and money laundering.
The charges follow a 2024 investigation into alleged diversion of public funds and collusion with oil marketing and bulk distribution companies.
The OSP alleges Hamid and other unnamed accomplices engaged in unlawful conduct during his tenure, compromising state revenue streams. While specific financial figures remain undisclosed, the probe centers on suspected orchestrated schemes benefiting private sector entities in Ghana’s energy sector.
This case marks Ghana’s latest high-profile anti-corruption action under President Mahama’s administration. The OSP confirmed investigations into related entities continue, signaling potential further charges.
