Ghana’s pioneering food bank, Food for All Africa, celebrates ten years of combating food waste and malnutrition, crediting donor partnerships for its growth into West Africa’s largest such organization.

Founded after its founder witnessed a mentally challenged man sharing discarded hotel food with street friends in Accra, the initiative now operates warehouses in Greater Accra and Ashanti, serving thousands weekly through targeted programs.

Key initiatives include the Hot Meals Program for vulnerable communities, LunchBoxx School Feeding to improve child nutrition retention, Mother and Infant Nutrition support, and emergency efforts like Food for Ghana’s Frontline and COVID-19 relief reaching 200,000 people.

The organization credits donor collaboration for enabling surplus food recovery, tech-driven distribution tracking, and cross-border expansion through Food for All Africa UK.

Anniversary Legacy Project:

To mark its decade milestone, Food for All Africa will transform its Offinso satellite warehouse into a Black Soldier Fly (BSF) Farm a circular agriculture hub converting organic waste into high-protein animal feed and compost.

The project aims to reduce dependency on donations by creating marketable products, while a digital points system will incentivize smallholder farmers to contribute waste.

“This is your legacy too,” the organization stated, announcing an August fundraising launch for the BSF farm. The model aligns with broader goals of environmental resilience and financial sustainability, positioning the food bank to scale impact across Ghana.
