Ghana’s National Identification Authority (NIA) has emphasized its advanced system’s capability to detect fraudulent attempts to obtain Ghana Cards illegally.
Head of Corporate Affairs Williams Emmanuel Ampomah Dallas confirmed the technology readily identifies citizens who unlawfully vouch for foreign nationals, declaring: “We are coming for you.”
Speaking at an August 4 briefing, Dallas revealed over 20 individuals face prosecution, including Ghanaians who facilitated foreigners’ illegal acquisition of citizenship cards. He issued a nationwide warning to those commercializing the vouching process: “From the North to Volta, we will pick them up for court.” The NIA reiterated that foreigners must follow legal ECOWAS card procedures, branding any alternatives unlawful.
The authority also addressed internal misconduct, pledging disciplinary and legal action against officers extorting money from applicants. Dallas clarified official fees: standard services at district offices remain free for new applications and record updates, with replacement cards costing GH₵60–125. Premium center fees range from GH₵310 for first-time applicants to GH₵365 for nationality updates.
