His Excellency Mr. Edwin Harris Jr., Director General of the Intergovernmental Action Group against Money Laundering in West Africa (GIABA), paid a courtesy visit to the ECOWAS Gender Development Centre (EGDC) in Dakar, Senegal, reaffirming GIABA’s commitment to regional cooperation and institutional capacity building.

Ms. Sandra Oulaté Fattoh, Director of the EGDC, warmly welcomed Mr. Harris and his delegation, expressing heartfelt appreciation for his visionary leadership and continued support of the Centre’s mission. She emphasized the strategic importance of the visit, noting it as a powerful symbol of GIABA’s dedication to advancing the Dakar pooling initiative and fostering synergy among ECOWAS institutions.

During the meeting, Ms. Oulaté Fattoh introduced the EGDC team and candidly addressed the Centre’s pressing challenge: a critical shortage of human resources that hampers the full implementation of its programs.

In response, Mr. Harris reiterated GIABA’s steadfast support for the EGDC, pledging to assist in strengthening its workforce and advancing key strategic priorities. He underscored the importance of cultivating an inclusive and empowering work environment—one that nurtures staff development and ensures the long-term effectiveness and sustainability of the Centre’s initiatives.

The visit marked a renewed spirit of collaboration and solidarity between GIABA and the EGDC, reinforcing their shared commitment to gender equity and institutional excellence across West Africa.
