Ghana International School (GIS), the country’s oldest international educational institution, is gearing up to mark a major milestone—its 70th anniversary, on September 1, 2025.

What began in 1955 as the Gold Coast International School has grown into a highly respected academic institution, known for setting the standard in international education in Ghana and beyond.

Renamed after Ghana’s independence, GIS has since become the only school in the country with dual accreditation from both the Council of International Schools and the New England Association of Schools and Colleges.

Speaking at the  press launch  ahead of the celebration, Chief Executive Officer of the school  Dr. Mary Ashun emphasized the importance of the school’s legacy, highlighting the significant role it has played in shaping educational excellence in Ghana. “We believe education is the engine for change,” she noted, reinforcing the school’s commitment to maintaining world-class standards within an African context.
