The Minister for the Interior, Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak, has disclosed that government is rolling out immediate humanitarian interventions to support families displaced by the recent conflict in the Sawla-Bole area.
Addressing journalists after meeting the Overlord of Gonja, Yagbonwura Bii-Kunuto Jewu Soale I, the minister said the National Disaster Management Organisation (NADMO) has been tasked to collate accurate figures on the extent of displacement.
“Some have been displaced internally, others have crossed our borders, while some are even in other regions. We are trying to get the exact number and then we would see exactly what can be done,” he explained.
Mr Muntaka noted that food supplies, tents and other relief items were already being mobilised to bring urgent assistance to affected households.
He assured residents that government remained fully committed to addressing both the humanitarian needs of victims and the underlying causes of the unrest.
“We have tasked NADMO to get us the numbers in every area. Some have been displaced internally, others have been displaced across our borders, and some are even in other regions. So, we are trying to get the exact number, after which we will see exactly what can be done. I can assure you that, in the meantime, a lot has been done; food items are coming, we are getting tents and all that,” he said.
