Ghana Football Association President Kurt Okraku announced a transformative funding model for the 2025/26 Premier League season, headlined by a record GH₵2 million prize for champions.

The landmark decision, revealed at the GFA’s Ordinary Congress in Prampram, dramatically overhauls club financing—with every top-flight team guaranteed GHC 1 million upfront before kickoff.

Winners will receive the GH₵2 million purse, a trophy, and 40 gold medals, while runners-up get GH₵1 million (silver medals) and third place GH₵800,000 (bronze).

Crucially, the new 15-tier reward system ensures even 15th-placed clubs earn GH₵200,000, a move Okraku called “a financial lifeline to stabilize our game.”

The model replaces winner-takes-all incentives with performance-based payouts across all standings:

“This ends the era of clubs collapsing after relegation,” Okraku emphasized, noting the structure aims to curb player exodus and attract investors.

The September 12 season start now carries higher stakes, with analysts predicting increased competitiveness as clubs fight for every ranking position.

The overhaul follows years of club bankruptcies and talent drains. Asante Kotoko’s former columnist Kojo Addae Mensah welcomed the change: “When a fan’s death can derail a title bid, you know finances are fragile. This is transformational.”
