The Special Prosecutor, Kissi Agyebeng, has revealed that he is aware of the exact date former Finance Minister Ken Ofori-Atta left the country during the transition period but chose not to disclose it publicly.
“He left before 7th January, between 1st and 6th January. I know the exact date, but I am not going to say it. Who was in power during those few days? And we don’t control the airport,” he said on KSM Show on Tuesday.
Mr Agyebeng explained that despite having the information, his office could not prevent the former minister’s departure due to a lack of cooperation from other security agencies.
He claimed that his office, the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), did not get the needed cooperation from other state security agencies in the aftermath of the 2024 general election.

Mr. Agyebeng lamented that the absence of institutional readiness and inter-agency collaboration undermined the Office of the Special Prosecutor’s ability to act effectively under the erstwhile NPP administration.
The OSP added that the former minister’s extradition from the United States remains uncertain, citing the complexities of international law and diplomatic protocols.
He said if Mr Ofori-Atta were currently in Ghana, his office would have effected an arrest without hesitation.
“I was making a joke about it that, if he lives in Agbogba, he would be with us as we are speaking, but since he is in a foreign country, I cannot put a date on it. And even that, the central authority in charge of extradition matters in the USA would decide…,” he said on the KSM Show.
