Eze Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, leader of Ghana’s Igbo community, has refuted recent claims about establishing an “Igbo Kingdom” in Ghana, clarifying that a 12-year-old proposal for a residential estate was never realized due to land acquisition challenges.
In a July 20, 2025 interview on TV3’s Hot Issues, the community leader explained that a 2013 discussion with Nene Osoroagbo Djangmah XII of Old Ningo about acquiring 50 acres for an Igbo-oriented development (including housing, malls, and markets) collapsed when the land became embroiled in litigation.
“The bloggers misinterpreted… We wanted to create a secure business environment for Igbos facing market harassment, but abandoned the vision years ago,” stated Eze Ihenetu, referencing recent trader disputes at Accra’s TipToe Lane as examples of ongoing challenges.
