Christian Tetteh Yohuno, the Inspector General of Police (IGP), led a solemn moment of silence to mourn the 8 victims who lost their lives in a military helicopter crash in Adansi-Akrufuom.

In a video spotted by YEN.com.gh on X, the IGP took the opportunity to honour the deceased during the inauguration of the headquarters chapter of the Police Ladies Association.

Before delivering his address, IGP Yohuno took a moment to reflect on the lives of the victims, acknowledging their invaluable contributions to the country.

He also asked the attendees to rise while they all observed the one-minute silence.

In his speech, IGP Yohuno expressed deep sorrow over the tragic incident.

He emphasised the nation’s collective grief and the importance of supporting the families of the victims.

Ghanaian Government Confirms Funeral Details

Meanwhile, the government disclosed the complete details for the funeral of the eight deceased.

The Presidency called for a befitting state burial for the deceased and has decided to honour them on Friday, August 15, 2025.

The event is said to be a full military service carried out by the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF).

Stan Dogbey, the Deputy Chief of Staff, disclosed that the funeral ceremony will be in three segments while speaking at a press conference on Thursday, August 14.

According to him, the first segment would be the reading of Bible passages and the recitation of the Qur’an. The main service would be the second part, followed by the actual burial of the victims.

He said the pre-burial programme would be from 7:30 to 9:00 in the morning.

Crash victims to be buried at Tse-Addo

Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, the Vice-President, would make an appearance at 8:50, followed by President John Dramani Mahama arriving at 9:00 to commence the State service.

During the three-hour funeral ceremony, the biographies of the eight victims would be read out. The families of the victims would also be included.

After the service, the bodies of six of the victims will be taken to the military cemetery at Tse-Addo for burial, with the Ghana Armed Forces (GAF) and the victims’ respective churches conducting the burial rites.

YEN.com.gh reports that, in line with Islamic customs, two of the victims, Alhaji Dr Ibrahim Murtala Mohammed and Muniru Mohammed Limuna, were buried on Sunday, August 10, according to Islamic customs.

Deputy Chief of Staff Stan Dogbey has also advised the public to arrive early and follow all security protocols for the event.

NDC communicator blames NPP for helicopter crash

YEN.com.gh had earlier reported that a communicator for the National Democratic Congress (NDC) had made controversial claims about the recent helicopter crash.

Kwaku Owusu Banahene accused the NPP of sabotaging the helicopter and the presidential jet in a plot against President John Mahama.

Many criticised his claims, noting that the government and the Ghana Armed Forces had yet to release a report on the cause of the crash.
