- Kennedy Agyapong has criticised Dr Bawumia’s chances of leading the NPP back to power
- The former Assin Central MP said it would take the NPP 16 years to win an election with Bawumia as flagbearer
- He claimed Ghanaians across markets, schools and chop bars are calling for his presidency instead
Kennedy Agyapong, a flagbearer hopeful of the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP), has launched yet another scathing attack on his main opponent, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, the former vice president.
Speaking to NPP delegates in the Western North Region, Kennedy Agyapong, who is the former Member of Parliament for Assin Central, questioned the viability of Dr Bawumia’s candidacy to wrestle power back for the party.

He said that repeating Dr Bawumia as flagbearer would be inimical to the party’s electoral fortunes in 2028.
Earlier, Kennedy Agyapong had thrown a challenge to Dr Bawumia, tasking him to find the number of years it would take to win back power for the NPP, considering his abysmal performance in the last election, where he lost by a margin of 1.7 million votes.
He stated that if the current president, John Dramani Mahama, needed eight years to overturn a one-million vote deficit after losing the 2016 election to win the December 7, 2024 polls, then it raises questions about how long it would take the NPP to regain power, tasking Dr Bawumia’s camp to “find X.”
“I have seen people busily solving for X on social media after I challenged them (Dr Bawumia’s camp) to find X. But the exact answer for X is 13.7 years. When you do the approximation, you will get 14 years, but 14 years doesn’t exist in politics, so this means that it will take us 16 years to close the gap. So because of one person’s parochial interest, must we stay in opposition for 16 years, when the grassroots of the party are calling for Kennedy Agyapong?”
The former Assin Central MP claimed that he is one of the presidential aspirants in the history of Ghana’s politics to have ordinary Ghanaian citizens yearning for his presidency.
He consequently urged delegates of the party to elect him as the flagbearer for the 2028 election in the forthcoming NPP presidential primary slated for January 31, 2026.
“In commercial cars, people are calling for Kennedy Agyapong; in the markets, the women are saying bring Kennedy Agyapong and we will vote for him; and the students are also calling for my presidency. Even at the chop bars, they are asking the NPP to present me as the presidential candidate. In the history of Ghanaian politics, I’m the only presidential aspirant who, after declaring his bid, has Ghanaians calling for his presidency,” he said.
