Veteran Nigerian Juju musician Sir Shina Peters has stirred conversation with his recent comments on the true measure of a musician’s legacy.

Speaking on The Honest Bunch podcast, the 67-year-old icon asserted that producing timeless music, not fame or fortune, defines greatness in showbiz.

According to him, he takes pride in having created four evergreen songs, a feat he believes even the late Michael Jackson did not surpass. “The only thing you can show for showbiz at the end is how many evergreens you have produced. To my credit, I have four evergreens. Even Michael Jackson has just two — ‘Of The World’ and ‘Thriller’,” he said, adding, “So, if I have four, I am accomplished.”

Sir Shina Peters, known for revolutionising Juju music in Nigeria, also expressed concern about the current state of the industry.

He lamented that the high standards set by his generation have been “bastardised” by today’s artists, suggesting a worrying decline in musical quality and authenticity.
