Netflix has unveiled R&B, a new faith-based film from powerhouse producers Tyler Perry and DeVon Franklin, released globally today, September 26. The story introduces Jazz Strong as Shay, a talented vocalist brought in to replace Ruth on a track.
In one of the film’s pivotal moments, Shay attempts to recreate Ruth’s performance in the studio—but despite her vocal power, the producers are left unimpressed, highlighting the depth of Ruth’s irreplaceable artistry.
From writers Michael Elliot (Brown Sugar) and Cory Tynan (Play’d), R&B is a modern-day retelling of the biblical story of Ruth and Boaz. Set in Tennessee, the film follows a young woman who leaves behind the Atlanta music scene to care for an elderly widowed woman. Along the way, she not only finds the love of her life but also gains the maternal bond she has always longed for.
