Ghana’s president, John Dramani Mahama, has visited the family of the late Samuel Sarpong, who perished in the recent tragic helicopter crash which occurred in the Ashanti region on August 6, 2025.

The president called on the bereaved family after attending Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s burial ceremony at Manhyia Palace.
After commiserating with Otumfuo Osei Tutu II at the funeral, Mahama hurriedly moved to the late Samuel Sarpong’s family house.
He went with an entourage comprising the Chief of Staff, Julius Debrah, and the Ashanti Regional Minister, Dr Frank Amoakohene.
The sons of the late Samuel Sarpong, who was the Vice Chairman of the National Democratic Congress, clad in black mourning clothes, welcomed John Mahama into their home.
The president heartily hugged one of the children outside and exchanged pleasantries before making his way inside the house, where he met the widow, daughter and several other relatives.

Samuel Sarpong was confirmed on August 6, 2025, as one of the eight victims who were aboard the Ghana Air Force Harbin Z-9 helicopter when it crashed at Adansi Sikaman.
The politician and the other passengers, including Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, and Dr Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science & Technology, were embarking on a national assignment in Obuasi.

The president set aside three days for the nation to mourn the victims, climaxing it with a state funeral ceremony in Accra on Friday, August 15, 2025.
At the late Sarpong’s family house, Dr Frank Amoakohene shared some words of encouragement on behalf of the president.
He reminded the still-grieving family of its commitments to the family, including an educational fund for the children of the eight victims.
The family also communicated plans to pay their last respects to the late Samuel Sarpong. On October 18, 2025, he will be given a royal burial in Juaben, where he hailed from.

Samuel Sarpong’s daughter eulogises him
YEN.com.gh previously reported that Sarpomaah, Samuel Sarpong’s daughter, shared an emotional tribute after attending his state funeral.
In a TikTok post, Sarpomaah shared footage of her and her family’s visit to the cemetery during the burial of their late father.
Samuel Sarpong’s daughter also attached an emotional farewell message to her video in honour of her late father.
