New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer aspirant and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Agyapong, has vowed to use the ‘Asian Miracle’ to transform Ghana.
According to him, Ghana can learn from what is known as the Asian Miracle, where countries like Singapore, South Korea, and Taiwan rose rapidly by combining government support with strict accountability.
Speaking at the National Emerging Leaders Economic Forum 2025, Mr Agyapong explained that in those economies, governments actively provided subsidies, targeted policies, credit facilities, and direct financial assistance to local industries.
“Companies that used these resources effectively were strengthened, while those that failed to deliver were replaced by better managers to ensure efficiency and results,” he said.
He stressed that in Ghana, state support must not be treated as a free ride.
“Beneficiaries of soft loans and incentives must deliver results. If they fail, the support—and in some cases the entire enterprise—should be taken away and handed to more competent managers,” Mr Agyapong stated.
He argued that this approach would instill discipline, reward hard work, and ensure resources are used productively.
The former Assin Central MP maintained that Ghana already has the talent and capacity to replicate such a transformation.
“What we need is courage, discipline, and the determination to replicate strategies that have already proven successful elsewhere,” he stated.
