Kenyan President William Ruto has pledged a historic $4.6 million reward to the national team (Harambee Stars) if they win the 2024 Africa Nations Championship (CHAN), tripling previous incentives to galvanize performance.

During a Nairobi breakfast meeting with players, Ruto unveiled a tiered bonus structure: $464,500 for quarterfinal qualification, $542,000 for semifinal entry, and $697,000 for reaching the August 30 final in Nairobi.

Players will additionally earn $7,741 per win and half for draws. “This is Kenya’s first time hosting CHAN—a historic moment. We’ve tripled rewards so everyone gives their best,” Ruto declared. The tournament, co-hosted by Kenya, Uganda, and Tanzania, opens Saturday in Dar es Salaam.

The unprecedented financial commitment underscores Kenya’s ambitions as host nation, blending sporting prestige with economic investment in East African football.
