After the coup, Nkrumah’s wife and children relocated to Egypt but later returned to Ghana in their adult lives.

Except for when Kwame Nkrumah’s children engaged in politics, his children and grandchildren have lived a quiet life usually out of the limelight.

Kwame Thomas Melega made a rare appearance in public. He is the son of Samia Nkrumah, the only daughter of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.

Kwame Thomas Melega attended the NkrumahFest 2025, a week long event held in Nkroful in the Western Region.

In a video, the only grandson of Dr Kwame Nkrumah wore batakari and stood by Nana Kobina Nketsia V, Omanhene of the Essikado Traditional area, and chanted:

“Freedom, Freedom!”

Nana Kobina Nketsia V, later introduced to those present and said that he is the grandson of Dr Kwame Nkrumah.
