Ghanaian hiplife star Kwaw Kese has announced plans to expand his business ventures into poultry farming, expressing interest in joining the government’s new Nkokor Nketenkete initiative under the Feed Ghana programme.

Speaking on Daybreak Hitz with Kwame Dadzie and Doreen Avio, the rapper—known for hits like Abodam—said he’s eager to diversify his income streams beyond music.

“I do maize and cassava farming. I am ready to jump into the ‘nkokor nketenkete’ to start a poultry farm, so the government can help me,” he revealed.

Kwaw Kese explained that making a living from music alone in Ghana has become increasingly challenging, prompting him to explore other sectors. In addition to his farming activities, he also operates an automobile business and an eatery.

The Nkokor Nketenkete project is part of the government’s Feed Ghana flagship programme, designed to revive the local poultry industry and reduce reliance on imported chicken and eggs.

The initiative targets about 55,000 households for participation in poultry and egg production. Beneficiaries will receive day-old chicks, feed, battery cages, vaccines, and technical support to boost productivity.

A pilot phase of the project will roll out in selected districts, including 12 in the Northern Region, before expanding nationwide.

The government also plans to engage around 50 large or medium-scale commercial farmers—dubbed “anchor farmers”—each expected to rear up to 80,000 birds.

In the long term, the programme aims to meet nearly all of Ghana’s poultry demand domestically within three years, significantly cutting down the country’s hefty poultry import bill.

With Kwaw Kese’s entrepreneurial spirit and growing interest in agribusiness, the rapper may soon be known not just for his music—but for his chickens too.
