The unnamed woman, who was at Labone, Accra, for the YEA Work Abroad programme, narrated, during a short interview, how she heard about the initiative and her reason for participating.
According to her, she was contacted and given the official invitation, and decided to attend the event to learn more about the opportunities available. YEN.com.gh understands that the YEA initiative plans to expand job opportunities beyond the local market.
Lady discloses intention with YEA Work Abroad
The interviewer quickly asked if her main intention was to “jakpa”, a popular Nigerian slang term also adopted in Ghana, referring to leaving the country. She then corrected him by saying her main intention was not to leave the country.
She stressed that her primary motivation was to secure meaningful employment rather than to migrate for migration’s sake.
In her simple words:
“No. All I want is to work.”
She further explained that the programme outlined specific requirements for interested participants, including at least a Senior High School (SHS) certificate or a recognised working licence.
For someone like this lady, the YEA initiative represents a chance to build careers and support their families, rather than simply a pathway to leave Ghana permanently.

About YEA Work Abroad Programme
The YEA Work Abroad Programme aims to provide Ghanaian youths with the opportunity to branch out beyond the local markets in sectors such as artisanship, hospitality, transportation (including drivers and logistics), agriculture, construction, and more.
One notable opportunity under this scheme includes factory jobs in Abu Dhabi—with free placement and recruitment, exposure to international work environments, and attractive compensation packages for eligible applicants aged roughly 22 to 35 years.

The programme was launched publicly in March 2025 in Accra by the Minister of Labour, Jobs and Employment, Dr. Abdul‑Rashid Hassan Pelpuo. It formed part of the government’s drive to reduce youth unemployment while maximising the economic benefit of remittances.
According to YEA CEO Malik Basintale, the initiative positioned Ghana as a hub for ethical, skilled labour, reinforcing the agency’s vision of preparing Ghanaian workers as benchmarks of excellence in international labour markets.
Canada-based Ghanaian warns against relocating abroad
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Atta Kobby, a Ghanaian man based in Canada, warned Ghanaians against relocating abroad due to misleading job offers and scams.
He highlighted the “Jakpa” phenomenon, where scammers exploit the desire to flee economic hardship by promising fake opportunities.
The video sparked mixed reactions, with some Ghanaians in the diaspora agreeing with Kobby’s message, while others doubted his claims.
