Ghanaian singer and songwriter, Lasmid Nathaniel Owusu, widely known as Lasmid, believes Ghana has played a major role in shaping and popularizing Nigerian music across the continent.

Speaking in an interview with Hip TV, the ‘Pull’ hitmaker asserted that many Nigerian Afrobeats songs first gain traction in Ghana before becoming nationwide hits back home.

According to him, Ghanaian audiences have a deep affection for Nigerian artists, sometimes showing them more love than their own musicians.

“We love Nigerians so much, even more than ourselves,” Lasmid said. “If a Nigerian drops a song, it will first blow in Ghana before it blows in Nigeria. Most Nigerian songs blew in Ghana before blowing back home.”

He cited Spyro’s hit single ‘Who’s Your Guy’ as an example, noting that the track became a major success in Ghana before catching on in Nigeria.

“The song ‘Who’s Your Guy’ by Spyro blew in Ghana before Nigeria. The song was very big in Ghana before Nigerians caught the wave. The love Ghana has for Nigeria has always been there,” he emphasized.

Lasmid attributed this trend to the strong bond between the two countries and the genuine admiration Ghanaians have for Nigerian music. He believes that this cross-border support has helped many Nigerian artists gain momentum in West Africa and beyond.
