A devastating fire outbreak at Madina Redco on Sunday, August 3, 2025, has left several traders counting their losses, with one man emotionally pleading for support from popular actress and media personality Nana Ama McBrown after losing his shop and livelihood in the blaze.
The fire, which swept through a cluster of makeshift wooden and metal structures near the Madina Redco Flats, broke out around midday.

According to a statement from the Ghana National Fire Service (GNFS), the emergency call was received at 12:36 p.m., and the first fire appliance from the Madina Fire Station arrived at 12:40 p.m., just four minutes later.
Due to the intensity of the fire and the congestion in the area, reinforcements were called in from Legon, Abelemkpe, and the GNFS Headquarters, bringing the total number of fire engines deployed to five. Despite the swift response, several shops and kiosks were destroyed.
Among the worst-hit was a local trader who revealed he had recently taken out a loan to expand his small business, only for it to be reduced to ashes.
“Nana Ama McBrown, I listened to your advice and took a loan from Bill’s Microcredit. Now, I’m faced with this unfortunate incident, and I have to pay back the loan with interest. Please come to my aid. I am not asking for too much. Any little support would be appreciated,” he said in a video.
No casualties were recorded, and the cause of the fire is still under investigation.
