Ghanaian gospel musician Mama Esther has lost her mother, Hannah Opoku, affectionately known as “Maame Hannah”.
The popular deaconess and minister of God passed away peacefully at the age of 109 at her residence.

The Onyame Ayebi hitmaker made the official announcement on Facebook in a post sighted by YEN.com.gh on September 15, 2025.
Mama Esther paid tribute to her mother in an emotional post to celebrate her life and legacy. She shared photos of her late mom dressed in a classy lace outfit with this caption:
“It is with deep sorrow that we share the passing of my beloved mother, Deaconess Hannah Opoku (Maame Hannah), at the remarkable age of 109.”
“She lived a full and blessed life, leaving behind a legacy of faith, love, and strength. Kindly keep us in your prayers during this difficult time.”

Mama Esther shares her struggle with childbirth
Mama Esther has motivated many young women with her life story as she opened up about her struggles with childbirth.
She narrated how someone like her, who has already given birth to two children, could face fertility issues.
“My husband and I lost our first child two months after we got our second. People talked a lot. Some said I had gone for a procedure to stop giving birth after having two children. The rumours were too much. I waited for about ten years. Someone who gave birth to two children in less than two years, now I could not conceive.”
According to Mama Esther, the ten-year waiting period came with a lot of mysterious dreams,
“When my child died, I dreamt about being in labour where someone was telling me to push. Immediately, I pushed the baby out, the person put the baby in a bucket and started to walk off. When I demanded my baby, the person said it wasn’t a child but my womb, establishing that I would never give birth again.”
