Academic City University has awarded a $40,000 Presidential Scholarship to Blessed Oforiwaa Nsiah, a student of Mankranso Senior High School and a semi-finalist in this year’s National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ). Ms. Oforiwaa Nsiah will pursue a Bachelor of Science in Electrical and Electronics Engineering at Academic City.

In one of the most stunning upsets of the 2025 NSMQ, the Category C school made history by reaching the semi-finals for the first time after defeating former champions St. Thomas Aquinas SHS and Ghana National College in a thrilling quarter-final contest.

The scholarship confirms Academic City’s commitment to identify and nurture brilliant young Africans with the potential to drive innovation and national development. The Presidential Scholarship recognises students with exceptional academic ability, leadership potential and a strong commitment to societal impact. It covers tuition, accommodation, meals, a laptop, monthly stipend and transportation for the entire four-year duration.

Speaking on the award, Ing. Dr. Lucy Agyepong, Vice President, Institutional Advancement at Academic City, said the university was inspired by Oforiwaa Nsiah’s determination and academic excellence.

“At Academic City, we believe talent exists everywhere and the story of Blessed Oforiwaa Nsiah is a powerful reminder of that truth. Her passion for engineering and her outstanding achievement in the NSMQ reflect the kind of innovative mindset Africa needs. We are proud to provide the platform for her to realise her dreams,” she said.

Sharing her excitement, Ms. Oforiwaa Nsiah expressed gratitude to Academic City for the opportunity.

“This scholarship means the world to me and my family. Growing up as the daughter of an electrician, I have always been fascinated by how electricity powers everything around us. Studying Electrical and Electronics Engineering will help me gain the knowledge I need to one day establish a world-class electrical manufacturing company and make Ghana a true hub for innovation,” she said.

Ms. Oforiwaa Nsiah hails from Acherensua in the Ahafo Region, and her journey stands as an inspiring example of perseverance and potential triumphing over circumstance.
