The New Patriotic Party (NPP) has expressed deep sorrow following the tragic military helicopter crash that claimed the lives of all eight persons onboard, including Defence Minister, Dr Edward Omane Boamah, and the Minister for Environment, Science and Technology, Murtala Mohammed.

In a statement issued on Wednesday, August 6, the party described the incident as a national tragedy and extended heartfelt sympathies to the families of the deceased.

“The New Patriotic Party is reeling with sorrow and grief following the tragic crash of a military helicopter that claimed the lives of all eight persons onboard,” the statement said.

The party emphasised that the loss goes beyond the immediate families of the victims, calling it “a profound loss to the entire nation they worked to protect and build.”

Offering words of comfort, the NPP added: “We extend our deepest and most heartfelt condolences to the bereaved families. No words can truly capture the anguish of this moment. We pray that the Almighty God grants them comfort and strength during this excruciatingly difficult period.”

The statement also called for urgent action to determine the cause of the crash, demanding accountability and transparency.

“We call for a thorough, transparent, and swift investigation into the cause of the crash. The dignity of the lives lost demands answers and accountability to ensure that such a tragedy never happens again.”

In a message of national unity, the party urged Ghanaians to stand together in this time of mourning.

“In this time of grief, we call on all Ghanaians to come together in unity, prayer, and compassion. Let us stand with the families left behind. Let us console and strengthen one another,” the statement urged.

The NPP furthered its message by honouring the memory of the victims: “May the souls of these eight heroes rest in perfect peace until the last day of the Resurrection, when we shall meet again.”
