The Minority Caucus in Parliament has reaffirmed its commitment to defend Ghana’s sovereignty, uphold the Constitution, and preserve the nation’s reputation for principled foreign policy.
In a press conference addressing recent controversies over foreign policy decisions, the caucus criticised the government for what it described as constitutional breaches and inconsistent diplomacy.
Former Minister for Lands and Natural Resources and Member of Parliament for Damongo, Samuel Abu Jinapor, who is also the ranking member on Parliament’s Foreign Affairs Committee, addressed the press conference.
The group pointed to the Ghana-US deportee agreement as a violation of Article 75 and Supreme Court precedent, while also urging caution in official pronouncements on the Gaza conflict.
The Minority emphasised that Ghana’s international standing has historically been built on independence, neutrality, and credibility, warning that any deviation could compromise national interests.
“Departures from this tradition, if not checked, could diminish our moral authority on the international stage and compromise our broader national interests,” the caucus said.
They pledged to continue exercising oversight over the conduct of foreign policy in line with constitutional obligations.
