West Ham United vice-chair Karren Brady has revealed the reasons behind the club’s decision to sell Mohammed Kudus to Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur during the summer transfer window.
Kudus made the switch from West Ham to Spurs in a deal worth approximately £55 million ($75m). The Ghanaian has signed a six-year contract with Thomas Frank’s side, becoming the first player to move between the clubs since Scott Parker in 2011.

The former Ajax man dazzled on his Premier League debut for his new team, According to Flashscore, Kudus provided two brilliant assists to help Richarlison score twice as Tottenham defeated Burnley 3-0 on Saturday, August 16 at the Tottenham Stadium.
The 24-year-old Ghanaian also performed well during Tottenham’s 2025 UEFA Cup penalty shootout loss to Paris Saint-Germain in Udine on August 13. As Spurs fans continue to heap praises on their newly-signed attacker, Brady has shed light on West Ham’s decision to part ways with him, stating that he didn’t particularly stand out during his time at the club last season.

Why did West Ham sell Kudus?
According to the West Ham deputy chair, via TalkSPORT, it is always difficult for teams lose players that they want to keep. But the financial restraints and the PSR and all the rules and regulations in football mean that they needed to do some trading.
She said that was the reality for West Ham. Brady also claimed all clubs are having to do it. The poweful West Ham figure explained that clubs are restricted on what they can buy because they have to be careful of the financial rules or they have to sell to try and buy.
So that was the decision that was made in terms of the Ghanaian midfielder’s football future. She also added that Kudus did not have a particularly good season for West Ham last year by his own standards. So the Hammers decided to move on.
Meanwnhile, Spurs fans were all over social media as they praised Mohammed Kudus following his monstrous EPL debut for his new team, with some of the comments reproduced below.

Savinho to join Kudus, Richarlison
YEN.com.gh earlier reported that Tottenham Hotspur are planning to sign Manchester City winger Savinho as Thomas Frank eyes a fierce attacking front line, featuring Mohammed Kudus, Richarlison and the City wide man.
Despite the major outlay on former West Ham star Kudus, Spurs are still active in the transfer market, with Thomas Frank keen to add more attacking options ahead of the 2025/26 Premier League season.
