The National Democratic Congress has elected Bernard Bediako Baidooo as its Akwatia parliamentary candidate.

The party has described him as the choice of the people to replace the New Patriotic Party’s Ernest Kumi, who is the immediate past MP of the constituency.

Baidoo polled 380 votes in the parliamentary primary on August 4 to win the three-man contest.

Deputy General Secretary of the NDC, Mustapha Gbande, maintained that the election of Bediako represents development for the people of Akwatia.

“We have been given the opportunity. We respect the choice of the people. He is fit for purpose and standard to replace late Hon. Ernest Kumi, who will impact on the people through demonstration of knowledge.”

Baidoo will be squaring up against the NPP’s Solomon Kwame Asumadu in the by-election on September 2.

The NDC believes its candidate can win the election based on the good work of the seven-month-old Mahama administration.

The NPP, on the other hand, believes that the people of Akwatia will still be with it and the new candidate it is presenting.
