Nikyema Billa Alamzy, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Chiana-Paga, has taken a swipe at the Minority in Parliament over their penchant for staging protests.
Contributing to the debate on the mid-year budget review on Wednesday, Mr Alamzy, who is a first-time MP, suggested that the Minority side of the House lacked the moral right to express their position on the budget.

The Chiana-Paga MP’s statement came almost a week after the Minority side in Ghana’s Parliament staged a walkout during the presentation of the 2025 mid-year budget review by the Finance Minister, Dr Cassiel Ato Forson.
He said that after staging the walkout, one would have expected the Minority to stay away from debating the contents of the budget as well. However, they have chosen to continue participating in the debate.
Mr Alamzy further questioned the Minority’s consistency, suggesting that their actions were driven more by political theatrics than by genuine concern for the nation’s development.
“Our second colonial masters, what are they saying? You were not even here; you were not here. What are you debating? On speculations? … You cannot give what you don’t have. I wasn’t even expecting you to come and debate, but it has become your habit. If you are not demonstrating, you are petitioning; if you are not petitioning, you are walking out,” he said.
“Mr Speaker, please tell them to centralise; if not, they will soon go to Auntie Naa and complain,” he added.

Key highlights of 2025 Mid-Year Budget Review
On Thursday, July 24, 2025, the Minister of Finance presented the mid-year budget review in the Parliament of Ghana.
The review provided updates on revenue generation, expenditure, debt management, and the progress of key government projects for the first half of 2025.
It also highlighted the economic outlook for the remainder of the year and included details on the ongoing three-year US$3 billion International Monetary Fund (IMF) loan-supported programme, which has disbursed US$2.4bn to date to aid Ghana’s economic recovery and stability efforts.
Additionally, Dr Ato Forson also stated that some key infrastructure projects under the ruling National Democratic Congress (NDC) Big Push Programme will commence.

NPP MPs walkout of Ato Forson’s budget presentation
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that the Minority in Parliament walked out of the 2025 mid-year budget review in protest of the election violence during the Ablekuma North election rerun.
Minority Chief Whip Frank Annoh-Dompreh had attempted to make a brief statement on the election violence but was stopped with an assurance that time would be made for him later.
Frank Annoh-Dompreh, the Minority Chief Whip, stated that the New Patriotic Party caucus could not, in good conscience, participate in the budget proceedings while remaining silent on the election violence.
