Abetifi MP Bryan Acheampong has called for renewed cohesion within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) following its loss in the Ablekuma North parliamentary rerun.

The flagbearer aspirant urged members to avoid despondency, stating the party’s identity transcends single electoral contests.

“Yesterday’s rerun was difficult… While the outcome wasn’t hoped for, I remain proud of our commitment,” Acheampong acknowledged in a July 13 social media statement. He framed the moment as pivotal for reorganization: “We do not retreat; we reflect, reorganize, and rise again. The NPP spirit is defined by our enduring belief in Ghana’s promise.”

His intervention comes amid internal critiques following the July 11 defeat, where NDC candidate Ewurabena Aubynn secured the seat amid violent incidents. Acheampong’s “TimeToUniteAndRebuild” message counters NDC official Malik Basintale’s characterization of NPP leadership as “lazy” while aligning with Vice President Naana Opoku-Agyemang’s broader appeal for electoral peace.

The NPP faces strategic recalibration ahead of Ghana’s 2028 elections, with this loss intensifying focus on grassroots mobilization. Party leadership has yet to announce formal review proceedings.
