Tema Central MP Charles Forson has endorsed Kennedy Agyapong for the New Patriotic Party’s flagbearer position, claiming the opposition National Democratic Congress (NDC) views the firebrand politician as its greatest electoral threat ahead of 2028.
Forson’s public backing intensifies internal debates within the NPP as it navigates a competitive primary season.
Speaking on Channel One TV, Forson argued Agyapong’s grassroots relatability sets him apart. “He appeals to the Ghanaian. Everybody knows he’s a grassroots man,” the MP stated, recalling Agyapong’s strong 2023 primary performance against expectations.
Forson emphasized the candidate’s economic credibility with ordinary citizens: “Visit markets, trotros, or banking halls—traders will tell you he understands real economics, not just theory.”
The lawmaker questioned why the party hesitated to embrace Agyapong’s popular momentum. “Everyone says bring Kennedy and the NPP wins 2028. Why wait?” Forson challenged, noting the absence of internal mechanisms to suppress genuine support. He predicted victory for Agyapong, positioning him as both an NDC deterrent and potential solution to national leadership challenges.
The endorsement amplifies Agyapong’s growing coalition within the NPP parliamentary caucus as former Vice President Bawumia maintains an early endorsement lead.
