New Patriotic Party Deputy National Organizer Chris Lloyd Nii Kwei has publicly credited former Greater Accra Regional Research Director Emmanuel Nii Clottey with intervening to save him during a violent attack at the Ablekuma North constituency election re-run.
The incident occurred at St. Peter’s Methodist Church Polling Station when individuals alleged to be affiliated with the National Democratic Congress assaulted Kwei, forcing a temporary suspension of voting. Circulating social media footage showed Kwei being overpowered and repeatedly beaten while attempting to flee.
In remarks following Clottey’s visit during his recovery, Kwei stated: “When everyone was afraid to come close, Emmanuel Nii Clottey stood up to ward off these thugs and risked it all. Not everyone will do this.” Clottey, who has declared candidacy for NPP Greater Accra Regional Secretary, confirmed his intervention was driven by loyalty. “The situation was bad and someone needed to help. Chris is my brother and I couldn’t watch those hooligans harm him,” he explained. Kwei expressed gratitude for the support received from the party during his recuperation.
The attack highlights ongoing tensions in Ghana’s electoral processes, with the incident disrupting voting and causing panic among voters. Neither the NDC nor security agencies have issued formal statements regarding the alleged perpetrators at time of reporting.
