New Patriotic Party (NPP) flagbearer hopeful and former Assin Central MP, Kennedy Ohene Agyapong, says he is confident of winning the party’s presidential primary and leading the NPP into the 2028 general elections.
Speaking to the media after his vetting on Tuesday, September 23, Mr Agyapong said he was well-prepared for the election and believes the party recognises his readiness to be president.
“I was prepared. I believe I answered all the questions and they know I’m ready to be president of this country,” he said.
According to him, the vetting committee was interested in understanding his vision for Ghana and his motivation to lead the party.
He described the session as cordial, noting that he was asked “tangible and reasonable questions” and was not antagonised.
“They really wanted to know why I want to be president and my vision for the country, as well as the party. So I enumerated a couple of points on how I’m going to address some problems,” he explained.
Mr Agyapong stated that he has long been a committed party member and highlighted his track record as evidence of his potential.
When asked about his development model, the former Assin Central MP reaffirmed his commitment to adopting the Asian model of economic growth.
He cited countries like South Korea, India, and Dubai, which, he said, combined government support with private sector partnerships to build global giants such as Daewoo, Hyundai, and Samsung.
He explained that under this model, governments identified potential entrepreneurs, provided them with targeted loans, and directly paid for raw materials and equipment needed for their businesses.
“Now, what they do is that the government partners with the individual, the private sector. So they will wean themselves off when you finish paying the loan. Then it becomes your business,” Mr Agyapong said.
He stressed that Ghana must replicate this approach to overcome the lack of capital that hinders local businesses.
“In business, the most difficult part is the capital. So if the government supports you to get the capital and you run it well, you become a millionaire,” he added.
