HE Sabah Zita Benson has strongly called for investigations into the helicopter crash in the Ashanti Region, which has claimed the lives of Ghana’s Minister of Defence and seven others.

The eight Ghanaians died after a helicopter transporting them to a national event crashed in the Adansi Akrofuom District.
The fatalities included Dr Edward Omane Boamah, Minister for Defence, Dr Alhaji Murtala Muhammed, MP for Tamale Central and Minister for Environment, Science & Technology, Alhaji Muniru Mohammed – Acting Deputy National Security Coordinator, Dr. Samuel Sarpong (Vice Chairman of the NDC), and Samuel Aboagye – Former Parliamentary Candidate, Sqn. Leader Peter Bafemi Anala, Flying Officer, Twum Ampadu and Sgt. Ernest Addo Mensah.

The politicians were top executives of John Dramani Mahama’s National Democratic Congress and close pals of the president.
The diplomat in a now-deleted social media post published after the fatal accident expressed her shock and suspicions that the deaths could have been orchestrated.
She accused Ghana’s military of being partisan and strongly called for the preservation of the crash site for investigations, saying
“This is really painful. It hurts so bad. The crash site must be preserved for investigation, just in case someone fiddled with the helicopter. The military is partisan. An investigation must be conducted.”
Sabah Zita Benson, who is the first female to be appointed as Ghana’s High Commissioner to the United Kingdom & Northern Ireland, has held several notable positions in Ghana’s public service, including Minister of Information and Minister of Tourism.
Her role as part of the campaign team for the National Democratic Congress for the 2024 elections means she worked closely with some of the fallen statesmen, including Dr Omane Boamah.

Ghanaians react to Sabah Benson’s allegations
While some Ghanaians find Sabah Zita Benson’s allegations against the military, others have chastised her, forcing her to yank the post off her Facebook wall.
Eugene Ofosu Nkansah, the former CEO of the National Entrepreneurship and Innovation Programme, said the post was “very disappointing, coming from a whole ambassador.”

Bawumia mourns Obuasi crash victims
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that the former Vice President, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, has extended his condolences following the tragic helicopter crash in the Adansi Akrofuom District of the Ashanti Region that killed eight people.
In his message to Ghanaians as the nation mourns, Bawumia noted that the deceased victims paid the ultimate price in service to Ghana.
