Rita and Edward’s love story
At the state funeral of the August 6 military helicopter crash victims, Rita Adubei Offei, shared a moving tribute that traced the roots of her and Dr Omane Boamah’s love story back to an unlikely beginning.
“Kofi B! as I affectionately called you! We were destined to be together,” she began her tribute.
Recalling the day fate brought them together on a medical school bus. Although she was not a medical student, a chance encounter led to what she would later describe as a destined journey.
Their relationship, Rita said, was built not on grand gestures but on the simple joys of life, particularly their cherished night walks.

“Our night walks from my home to buy kenkey and fish, and vice versa. I always looked forward to visiting you in school so we would embark on our walk to buy kenkey and fish. Thus, buying and eating kenkey together became our hallmark,” she shared, drawing smiles from mourners despite the heavy atmosphere.
Over these humble meals, their connection grew deeper, and Rita said she became certain of the man he was, and the father he would be.
“I knew without a doubt you would be a loving and perfect father of our children,” she said.
Her words painted a portrait of a relationship rooted in companionship, laughter, and shared traditions, a love story now cut short but forever etched in her heart.
At Black Star Square, where the nation gathered to honour its heroes, Rita’s tribute stood as both a celebration of their life together and a poignant reminder of the personal losses behind the national tragedy.
