Otumfuo Osei Tutu II has courted attention following his reunion with his former primary school teacher at the Manhyia Palace.

On Wednesday, August 20, 2025, many high-profile personalities, including renowned businessman Dr Kwame Kyei and top executives from Guinness Ghana, visited the palace to join him in mourning the demise of the Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s old friends and the leadership of the various prominent churches in Kumasi also visited the Manhyia Palace to commiserate with the Asantehene and his family as they grieved their big loss.
Otumfuo reunites with his primary school teacher
In a video seen by YEN.com.gh, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s primary two teacher joined him in mourning the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III’s demise at the Manhyia Palace.
The elderly woman was assisted by some individuals, including the Asantehene’s elders, as she walked to shake hands with him while he sat in his chair.
Otumfuo Osei Tutu II’s teacher also offered heartfelt condolences and stood in solidarity with the King during his moment of grief.

Asantehemaa’s demise and burial preparations
On Monday, August 11, 2025, the Oyoko Family confirmed that the Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III, who was the second most powerful royal in the Ashanti Kingdom, had died at the age of 98.
She had been appointed to the position of Asantehemaa on February 6, 2017, taking over from her mother, the late Nana Afia Kobi Serwaa Ampem II.

Otumfuo Osei Tutu II announced the Asantehemaa’s passing during an emergency Asanteman Traditional Council meeting at the Manhyia Palace.
The Manhyia Palace subsequently announced a ban on all funerals across Asanteman on Thursday, August 21, 2025, to help the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, and the Asanteman to observe the one-week celebration of the late Nana Ama Konadu Yiadom III.
The police also announced that some selected roads will be closed on August 21, 2025, during the one-week observance of the late Asantehemaa Nana Konadu Yiadom III.
They also shared that there will also be traffic diversions for cars from Dichemso and Airport Roundabout in addition to cars coming via the Manhyia Bonjour Road.
Only invited guests and participants attending the one-week funeral celebration of the late Asantehemaa, Nana Konadu Yiadom III, will be allowed access beyond the diversion points.
Addo-Kufuor commiserates with Otumfuo at Manhyia Palace
Earlier, YEN.com.gh reported that Dr Addo-Kufuor commiserated with Otumfuo Osei Tutu at the Manhyia Palace after the Asantehemaa’s passing.
In a video, the former Defence Minister and NPP founding member shook hands with the Asantehene and offered words of comfort as he grieved.
Dr Addo-Kufuor’s visit to the Manhyia Palace marked a rare public appearance for the former politician, who has rarely been seen in public in recent years.
