Performance of Ghanaian players abroad
In Switzerland, Lawrence Ati Zigi stood in goal for St Gallen but could do little as his side slipped to a narrow defeat against Luzern.
Over in Ireland, Joseph Anang once again proved dependable, securing another clean sheet for St Patrick’s in their slim 1-0 victory over Drogheda.
Alexander Djiku had a cameo role in Turkey, coming off the bench in Fenerbahçe’s comfortable 3-1 win against Kocaelispor.
In Spain, Thomas Partey, deployed in midfield, enjoyed a dominant outing as Villarreal thrashed Girona 5-0.
Kwesi Sibo’s weekend, however, was less joyful. The midfielder’s Real Oviedo endured a heavy 3-0 loss to giants Real Madrid, marking their second straight defeat in La Liga.
In Belgium, Lawrence Agyekum lasted the full 90 minutes for Cercle Brugge as they brushed aside St. Liege 3-0.
Over in England, Antoine Semenyo may not have found the net but still left his mark, providing an assist in Bournemouth’s hard-fought 1-0 triumph over Wolves.
According to Transfermarkt, he has already contributed to three goals in just two appearances this campaign.
In England’s second tier, Jordan Ayew kept working tirelessly for Leicester City, though he is still searching for his first strike of the season.
His teammate Abdul Fatawu Issahaku, however, stole the spotlight with a thunderous effort that sealed all three points against Charlton.
Elsewhere, Brandon Thomas-Asante broke his duck with his first goal of the campaign as Coventry demolished QPR 7-1 in a statement win.
Austria witnessed another bright spark as Edmund Biadoo found the target for RB Salzburg in their 3-0 win over LASK.
In Germany, Ransford Yeboah Königsdörffer played 74 minutes for Hamburger SV in their goalless draw with Borussia Monchengladbach.
Auxerre fielded three Ghanaians in their 3-1 defeat to Nice, with Ibrahim Osman registering his second assist of the season, joining Gideon Mensah and Elisha Owusu in the starting lineup.
In Ligue 2, Ebenezer Annan and Augustine Boakye featured in St. Etienne’s 1-0 win over Boulogne, making it back-to-back victories for the club.
Serie A action saw Kamaldeen Sulemana involved once again for Atalanta, though his side was held to a 1-1 draw by Pisa. His compatriot, Ibrahim Sulemana, was not part of the squad on the day.
Elsewhere, Jerry Afriyie clocked 45 minutes for RAA La Louviere in their stalemate with Royale Union SG in Belgium.
Across the Atlantic, Osman Bukari was ever-present for Austin FC but could not prevent a 3-2 defeat against CF Montreal.
In California, Joseph Paintsil came off the bench for LA Galaxy and played his part as the team cruised to a 3-0 victory over Colorado Rapids, stretching their winning run across all competitions.
