Ghana laid to rest the last victims of a devastating August 6th helicopter crash during a deeply somber military funeral on Friday.
The Ghana Armed Forces conducted the full honours service for the eight personnel who lost their lives. Mourners gathered as the ceremony unfolded in three distinct parts: opening prayers from both Christian and Islamic traditions, a central funeral service, and the final burial rites.
The pre-burial observances began precisely at 7:30 AM, concluding by 9:00 AM. Vice President Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang arrived at the site shortly before 9:00 AM. President John Mahama entered immediately at the hour to formally commence the main service. His presence underscored the nation’s profound loss.
For three hours, the ceremony paid tribute to each of the eight men. Officials read detailed biographies, painting pictures of their lives and service. Heartfelt tributes followed, delivered by grieving widows, children, government representatives, and leaders from the institutions where the victims served. The collective grief was palpable throughout the dignified proceedings, marking a nation’s respect for its fallen.
