The Bono Regional Chairman of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), Kwame Baffoe, popularly known as Abronye, has been arrested by police under unclear circumstances.

Abronye, a controversial political figure, has recently been in the spotlight after filing applications for political asylum in eight countries: Côte d’Ivoire, the United States, France, Italy, Canada, Spain, the United Kingdom, and Germany.

In his petition, he claimed to be facing “consistent, escalating political persecution, threats to my life, and systemic abuse of state security powers by the current Government of Ghana,” which he argued warranted international protection.

Ahead of his arrest, armed police officers reportedly raided the home of former NPP Youth Organiser, Moses Abor, on Sunday in search of Abronye. However, he was not found at the location.

Details surrounding his detention remain unclear as police are yet to issue an official statement.
